Statistical Abstract » Financial Statistics and Prices

This chapter contains selected financial statistics and price indices for ESCWA member countries, in national currency, for the period 2000-2004. The tables show: government revenues and expenditures; some monetary and banking statistics such as money supply and bank credit; balance-of-payments items for the countries of the ESCWA region; foreign direct investment (FDI) statistics; and consumer price indices. The data were collected from various national sources and from data published by United Nations agencies.

Table IX-1 and IX-2 presents total government revenues in ESCWA member countries, including grants, and government expenditures for the period 2000-2004.

Table IX-3 provides data supply for the period 2000-2004 on money supply narrowly defined (M1), i.e. including demand deposits and currency in circulation outside the banking system, and broadly defined (M2), i.e. the sum of M1 and quasi-money (time deposits, savings deposits and foreign currency deposits).

Table IX-4 shows the distribution of bank credit by economic activity for the period 2000-2004.

Table IX-5 presents available balance-of-payments statistics for ESCWA countries for the period 2000-2004.

FDI statistics for the ESCWA region are shown in table IX-6. The statistics in both tables are based on several issues of the World Investment Report .

Table IX-7 contains consumer price index data for the world and for the ESCWA region. Tables IX-8 and IX-9 show, respectively, general consumer price indices and consumer price indices for food for ESCWA countries.
